Description

Class Experience

Students will learn about the lives of many artists as well as different types of art, art styles, art movements and art techniques!
I received a Bachelor's of Fine Arts at Moore College of Art & Design. In addition, I received an Art Education Certification to teach art K-12 in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Whatever we don't finish in class can be completed after class. If you can, please upload a picture of your completed work to me either in a private message or you can post it in the class comment section. :)
Students may bring: Pencils, Pens, Sketchbook, Canvas, Crayons, Markers, Pastels, Paper, Paint, Clay, or Whatever medium they choose to work with that day.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Some sensitive topics will be mentioned during some of the lessons such as: sadness, the passing away of the artist and their family members, LGTBQ, bodily harm (specifically, when van Gogh removes his ear), racism, drug use, smoking, alcohol use, etc. I will give the student's a "trigger warning" at the beginning of a lesson which may contain sensitive content. Some lessons may show nude models in the paintings or sculptures - HOWEVER, I cover the inappropriate body parts. I give the students the option to step away from their computer when I bring up the sensitive material if they do not wish to listen or see.
Each week, about 6-10 hours is spent on the research for the artist of the week - this includes putting together the Power Point presentation.

The extensive research for this class comes from a variety of sources such as, but not limited to:

- Artists' websites (such as: Faithringgold.com, Beardenfoundation.org, Basquiat.com, Kingpleasure.Basquiat.com, Deborahrobertsart.com, Fridakahlo.org, Haring.com, etc.  );
- Youtube videos of interviews of the artist and their family (some of which are included in the presentations);
- My own travel to different cities of the exhibits of the artists (including New York City, Philadelphia, West Chester, PA, Washington, DC);
- Tate.org.uk;
- Smithsonian (americanart.si.edu);
- Museum of Modern Art (Moma.org);
- Metropolitan Museum of Art (MetMuseum.org);
- Philadelphia Museum of Art (Philamuseum.org);
- Wikipedia.org;
- Britannica.com;
- National Gallery of Art (Nga.gov);
- Artnet.com;
- Blackpast.org;
- Blackhistory.net;
- Civilrightsteaching.org;
- Instagram.
