2 Units
6 Lessons
over 2 Weeks
Unit 1: The Basics of Science & Change
Lesson 1:
The Scientific Method & Thinking Like a Scientist
How do scientists come up with their discoveries? How do they observe and understand the world around them?
Quantitative versus Qualitative data. How to make predictions and design experiments to test our hypotheses.
We'll even come up with our own little experiment to test what it's like to think like a scientist!
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
From Atoms to Molecules: The LEGOs of the Universe
What is everything made of? What is the smallest thing we can divide something into?
Matter and its properties, as well as how to identify it.
The basics of atomic structure and the periodic table. The combination of atoms to form molecules.
Fun activity: everything is chemicals! – looking at molecular models of common, everyday things
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Chemical Changes & States of Matter
How can we make matter change? Is it magic? Or just chemistry?
Understanding solids, liquids, gases, and even plasma!
The difference between a simple physical change, and a chemical reaction.
Chemistry demonstration: what happens when baking soda and vinegar react? You can put on your scientist goggles and do it from home alongside me!
60 mins online live lesson
Unit 2: The Science of Earth & Space
Lesson 4:
Forces & Motion
What makes things move? What makes them stop moving? What are the invisible forces that act on the world around us?
Introduction to Newton's three laws of motion.
Understanding the forces of gravity and friction.
Fun demo: Let's test Newton's law of inertia with an exciting 'magic' trick!
