SUMMARY:

I offer highly personalized 1:1 writing tutoring to ensure that your learner is ready for writing in college-level courses!

Before the first session, I ask that students submit 3-4 short or medium-length writing samples so that I can identify specific strengths to build on as well as areas ready for growth. I don't use a preset writing curriculum; instead, I develop a personalized learning plan for your student based on their own specific situation and goals.

My tutoring sessions are fully interactive and discussion-based; I often use a handheld white board to jot down high-level ideas at the beginning of a session, and then we transition to working with an on-screen text editor as we discuss specific example paragraphs or sentences.

Throughout our time, I encourage learners to raise questions, offer input and bring up all sorts of ideas: collaborative writing sessions are the most productive AND the most enjoyable!

Writing is about making choices, so in each session, I help learners understand when, why, and how different choices might be effective for different types of essays. This helps increase their confidence as writers, and it prepares them to succeed in the future even as they may encounter various types of writing assignments.

ASSIGNMENTS AND ASSESSMENTS:

I typically plan to complete all work within a session; however, I am happy to provide practice assignments on request.

Because in-session discussions during a session help students understand their strengths, weaknesses, and progress, formal assessments are not usually required. However, I am happy to provide a written assessment of a learner's progress on request.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

My sessions are designed to help students grow in general writing skills.
I do NOT offer assistance on specific assignment(s) that a learner is working on for another course.
