What's included

16 live meetings

1 hour per week. Students will have a short homework assignment after each session to make sure they are able to do the work away from one-on-one guidance. These should take no more than 20 minutes to complete.
Assessment
The next to last session will be spent in assessing students' growth. These results will be given to parents, along with recommendations for next steps for your learner's educational journey.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 4
This course will focus on the most challenging math standards that a child is expected to learn in 3rd grade. I strictly follow the CCSS standards (Kentucky Academic Standards) and have taught these in the public school setting for 14 years.

This course is a follow-up to the popular class "3rd Grade Math - But like, the fun kind...."

My courses are high-energy and fully immersive. Most lessons will include nearpod, which allows your child to work on problems alongside me and solve them privately. I am able to give one-on-one feedback privately to each and every student during a session and can assess live how they are comprehending the content.

There is always a lot of laugher and fun in my class, but there is a high expectation for learning as well and your child WILL leave class feeling more confident about his or her mathematical abilities.

Content covered:
fraction equivalents and factoring
double digit multiplication using a variety of methods to meet every learning style
single digit division progressing on to long division using a variety of methods
3rd grade geometry (shape classification, coordinate graphing, angles)

We will start simply and content will build over time, but only as I see my students are ready to progress. I guarantee your child will become more confident in math and will learn to enjoy our time together and math in their everyday lives.

Each class will start with a review of what we have learned in previous sessions. We will then do activities together, ranging from taking notes, playing games, and completing activities together based on what our objective is that day. We will always end with a fun review game. Your child will always leave class on a high note, excited to show you what he or she has learned that day.

My ultimate goal for my students is ALWAYS to have the confidence to realize that math doesn't have to be scary and can be fun and even exciting!

There will be two classes per week and class sessions will be taught as follows:

Week 1 - Multiplication/Factoring
Week 2 - Factoring/Fraction Equivalents
Week 3 - Simplifying Fractions
Week 4 - Division
Week 5 - Multiplying Large Amounts
Week 6 - Long Division
Weeks 7 and 8 will be geometry and a review of skills taught and an assessment to gauge student retention and next steps.

Your child's enrollment in this course will give them access to many FREE coupons for game sessions I hold throughout the week to build mathematical skills and a subscription to Education.com that they can utilize to play games and do activities outside class time to build their skills in math, reading, writing, and typing.

We will touch on MANY different skills during each session, but the majority of the lesson will be focused on the topics listed above. Each week will have review built in of what we have learned in previous weeks.

Other Details

Pre-Requisites
Students may wish to enroll in part one of this course, which covers addition/subtraction with regrouping, single digit multiplication and division (up to 12s) and basic fractions.
Supply List
Students will be expected to come to class prepared each day to learn with a notebook and pencil. There may be times that physical manipulatives are used, but this will always be communicated well in advance and will be objects commonly found around the home (blocks, cereal pieces, candies, coins, etc)

I have taught online for many years now and in the classroom for 14 consecutive years as the lead teacher in classrooms ranging from preschool-5th grade. This has allowed to see what skills students need at every year of their learning journey and has afforded me a wealth of insight into how students think and learn about math.
