During this math bootcamp, students will be introduced to multiple Common Core and traditional strategies for the main 4th grade math concepts. These include concepts of computation in all 4 math operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), fractional units, and basic geometry. The weekly schedule will be as follows: Monday: Addition and Subtraction with and without regrouping (3 and 4 digit numbers) Tuesday: Multiplication (3 x 1, 4 x 1, and 2 x 2 digit numbers)...
Monday: Addition and Subtraction with and without regrouping (3 and 4 digit numbers) Tuesday: Multiplication (3 x 1, 4 x 1, and 2 x 2 digit numbers) Wednesday: Division (3 divided by 1 digit numbers) Thursday: Fractions (unit fractions, unit fraction addition, and equivalent fractions) Friday: Geometry (angles and polygons)
Having taught over 21 years of math in a full time classroom and hundreds of students, I know how to redirect confusion, stop-out misconceptions, and break down difficult concepts into small manageable pieces. I have worked with students of all levels and ages, and extensive trainings in multiple math programs and curriculums. I have Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. My expertise is in bilingual and gifted education. Students will have some VOLUNTARY independent practice after each class. This is require about 15-20 minutes after class.
Students will need lined paper, grid paper, white printer paper, pencils, colored pencils and a ruler. PDFs will be provided at times which will need to be printed prior to class. Some students may benefit from hands on fraction bars, but they are not required.
Students will be given feedback immediately in class as they work problems. Parents can be provided with an end of week summary of their child's performance and understanding upon request.
