Class Experience

US Grade 2
Second Grade Reading while enhancing and/or maintaining your child's academic skills and strategies with fun-filled weekly themed units! 

Each week students will engage in a fun theme that includes essential components of reading instruction:
*comprehension
* vocabulary
*fluency
*phonological awareness
*phonics and word analysis

Other literacy topics include:
*grammar, writing and visual discrimination

Students will work with a small group and the teacher to complete the daily activity.

Sample week: *Note: Skills and strategies change weekly to enrich or enhance student's learning

Monday: Students will be introduced to their weekly story (Fluency) and comprehension activity
Tuesday- Phonics/Phonemic Awareness Activities
Wednesday: Vocabulary/writing/grammar

 June 3       Week 1: Happy Birthday Lee!  (sounds for the vowel a) 
 ( Week 1: This week starts Thur-Sat ONLY)
 June 10th  Week 2: My Dog Max  (two sounds of th)
 June 17th  Week 3: Week Camping (three sounds of final ed)
 July 1st      Week 4: Peanut Butter (long vowel digraphs)

 July 15th    Week 5: The Case of the Missing  Apples (building gr and wr wo
July 22nd    Week 6: May I Keep Her? (building words with kn)
July 29th     Week 7: Rashma's Nest: recalling story details, sequencing, following directions, understanding word meaning, understanding a diagram, building long vowel words using silent e, spelling plural nouns, using pronouns, writing a paragraph




Students will print out their theme sheets prior to each class, students will not work ahead, but work with their classmates and teacher to complete activities. Small assignments after class will also be assigned.
