Class Experience

US Grade 1
First Grade Reading while enhancing and/or maintaining your child's academic skills and strategies with fun-filled weekly themed units! 

Each week students will engage in a fun theme that includes essential components of reading instruction:
*comprehension
* vocabulary
*fluency
*phonological awareness
*phonics and word analysis

Other literacy topics include:
*grammar, writing and visual discrimination

Students will work with a small group and the teacher to complete the daily activity.

Sample week: *Note: Skills and strategies change weekly to enrich or enhance student's learning
Tuesday: Students will be introduced to their weekly story (Fluency) and comprehension activity
Wednesday- Phonics/Phonemic Awareness Activities
Thursday: Vocabulary/writing/grammar

This is a Getting Ready for First Grade Reading/Spelling/Writing all things ELA Summer Camp!

~8 Weeks~
June 3           Week 1: Dad and I  (blending words in the -ap family)
June 10th     Week 2: My Cocoon  (blending words in the -ill family)
June 17th      Week 3: Who Can Fix it (blending words in the -ar family)
June 24th     Week 4: Giant Tortoise (blending words in the -ell family)
July 1st          Week 5: Put it in the Pack (blending words in the -ack family)

~No Class over the week of July 8th-July 14th

July 15th     Week 6: An Ant on the Rug (blending words in the -ug family)
July 22nd      Week 7: Who Lives in the Barn? (blending words in the -ake family)
July 29th       Week 8: The Fix-It Man (words in the -ink family)


Students will print out their theme sheets prior to each class, students will not work ahead, but work with their classmates and teacher to complete activities. Small assignments after class will also be assigned.
