Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner - Intermediate Level
During this class students will have a brief introduction to the artist, Norman Rockwell and learn about his life and career as one of America’s all-time favorite artist and Illustrator! This will be followed by a drawing lesson in which students will create one of Rockwell’s famous paintings called, “Puppy Love.” During the first half of class students will develop the drawing in 5 progressive steps. They will learn that drawings can also be broken down into 5 basic shapes. Rockwell used bold, colorful brush strokes and “Impasto whites” to create paintings about everyday American life. His work had enormous detail and enabled him to achieve incredible, eye-captivating realism in his paintings! Americans admire his work because it speaks to them! During the second half of class, students will learn basic coloring techniques. Coloring is an important part of the drawing! Your child will be inspired by the ‘realism” and color in their completed masterpiece! Never again will they look at color and composition in the same way! It is my hope that I can instill a love for drawing as well as a sense of confidence in your young artist! The cognitive skills that they master while drawing can also be helpful when learning at school! In the materials section you will find everything that you need for this exciting class!
