Class Experience

#superstar

How can a little piece of plastic get you into serious trouble?

It’s as easy as shop, swipe, and spend! Many young people use credit cards without knowing how they work and this lack of knowledge can lead to stolen information, lots of debt, and upset parents! Using engaging videos and handouts, students will learn how to avoid scams and penalties while getting the rewards and benefits of responsible credit card use. This class is interactive, not lecture-based, so students will have the opportunity to discuss, share experiences, and ask questions. I hope to see you in class BEFORE you use your parent's credit card or get one of your own.

All learners will leave the class with valuable resources about credit cards that they can refer to in the future.
Learning Goals

As a tenured, certified Business Teacher I taught personal finance and classes on credit card use to tweens. I know that many of these students do not understand the basics of credit cards, debit cards, and gift cards. They will learn that interest is charged on credit card loans. This lack of knowledge is unfortunate and can likely lead to young people making poor financial decisions and getting deep into debt. That's why it's critical for tweens to learn how to save, borrow, and use credit cards responsibly BEFORE they use a parental credit card or get one of their own.
