What's included
15 live meetings
13 hrs 45 mins in-class hoursHomework
4+ hours per week. Homework will be a mixture of practice problems, worksheets, interactive practice, simulations, and labs. Students will also watch the recorded lecture for the week. There will be optional textbook readings if students want this resource to improve their understanding. Students should expect to spend at least hours a week on their homework assignments.Assessment
Students will have short assessments every other week. They will also turn in lab reports to demonstrate their understanding of the chemistry concepts of the lab.Grading
Grades are offered per parent request. Students must submit work through the classroom page. A grade document will be shared with the student and parent so they can see how they are progressing through the course.Class Experience
US Grade 9 - 12
In this semester-long course, students will learn the principles of high school chemistry. Chemistry is a math heavy science, so students are recommended to have a prior knowledge of at least Algebra 1. This class will have one live meeting a week. In addition to one live lesson per week, students will have an additional recorded lesson to assist with their notes and assignments. For the live meetings, we will focus on the more difficult concepts and address any questions students have. It will be a very interactive course with example problems, concept review, and review games. My teaching style is energetic which will help students feel comfortable with this, at times, challenging material. I will post 1-2 instructional videos each week along with guided notes and a textbook resource. Homework and practice problems will be a mixture of worksheets and labs. Students will have assignments each week and will post any questions that they have or bring them to the live meeting. They will also video and give an explanation of a problem or lab on Flipgrid and respond to their peers many times throughout the semester. We will also have assessments where students can test their knowledge and receive feedback. Per parent request, I can provide grades for the classwork and assessments if needed for a credit.
Learning Goals
Students will study the basics of high school chemistry such as balancing equations, atoms, stoichiometry, acids, bases and more. Students will learn hands-on with simulations and labs as well as live meetings.
