In this ongoing class we will use the book "A Smart Girl's Guide: Sports and Fitness" by American Girl to build confidence and learn how to live a healthy lifestyle, have fun, and be your best. Each class will be themed around the topics covered in the book. Some of these topics are speed and agility, endurance, strength training for your mind and body, and healthy eating. There will be discussion around topics that will help the girls to become more confident. We will also learn about living a healthy lifestyle and come up with a plan to start living this way today. We will practice the concepts in the book. Every class will have a workout time based on that week's skills. This class will help all athletes feel more confident mentally and physically. Feel free to bring your favorite American Girl or girls to class with you! This is my passion and I can't wait to share it with your children!
Learning Goals
August 28th- What's so great about sports? Today's workout will begin with a short yoga warmup, followed by discussion about how sports and fitness benefits our bodies. Students will share their favorite sport. We will end the class with a 10 minute movement workout.
September 4th- Your body. We will begin with a short yoga warmup followed by discussion from the book about healthy living practices. Eating healthy, dressing appropriately and your body's abilities will be discussed. We will end with a sample of pilates, bootcamp, foam rolling and yoga exercises.
September 11th- Your body. In this class we will begin learning why it is important to warm up and will practice warming up using pages 32-34 in the book. After we learn to warm up we will discuss injuries and sports Q & A. We will end with a short mindfulness activity.
September 18th- Power Drills. In this class we will learn ways to become stronger and last longer. We will practice drills such as planks, lunges and jump roping. As time allows we may also learn agility drills such as ladders and tree pose in yoga.

Parental Guidance
Please make sure your child has an area in which they can move around. Please bring a water bottle to class. All of our workouts are age appropriate but please keep in mind there is always a minimal risk of injury anytime we are active. Safe practices and reminders will be discussed before every workout.
Supply List
Occasionally there may be a sport discussed and it would be beneficial to have the supplies for that sport. Example: a jump rope during the endurance section. This is not required but would be helpful. Yoga mats or a rug would be helpful during all classes.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
