Description
Class Experience
WEEKEND WORKSHOP: The class will meet on Saturday & Sunday for the price listed (3.5 hours total). As a certified communications teacher and past manager, the job search process from start to finish is one of my favorite concepts to teach & mentor. Over the duration of this 2-Day Weekend Workshop, learners will interact with a live class, work through the job steps & prep listed below, be encouraged to apply for a job or two, create a reference list & resume, practice interview questions,...
This class is taught in English.
The students will learn: +Socialization skills & guidance for respectful interactions +How to take turns & use the chat appropriately in an online class +Documentation needed to start a job (first, so they find it all!) +Search methods for current & local job openings +How to read job listing descriptions to see if they are qualified +What makes a good reference +To create a solid reference list & ask permission/give heads up +Do's/Don'ts of resumes +What their strengths & skills are to include in resumes +How to tailor a resume for specific job openings +How to make their resume a PDF +What to email potential managers in a cover message +How to attach their PDF resume to an email +Interview preparation steps +Interview dress code standards +The importance of eye contact & a solid handshake +The power of using names during the job search process +FAQ interview questions & good ways to answer them +Interview follow-up process
Certified Speech Communications Educator with 20+ years of experience teaching about job preparation and future careers. In addition, I have worked in several managerial roles that have required interviewing and hiring.
Learners will be encouraged each day to return with items in the "Get a Job" process to work on for forward progress, this will include: +A list of current job openings they are interested in (bookmark or Save to PDF) +Collect 3-5 references, their contact info, & permission to use +Brainstorming a list of activities, accomplishments, & skills for their resume +Work on Resume Worksheet or Template +Compose a draft email for their cover message +Watch video about FAQ interview questions & complete the worksheet
+WORKSHEETS: References, Resume, & FAQ Worksheets will shared before class starts. +PRINT or COPY DOC: These can be printed or copied in Google Docs for the student to type their work on.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
3 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
JOB SEARCH: Google For Jobs will be used as a tool for class, because this search method collects vacancies from different sites. This way, a job seeker does not have to login / logout on different job sites and no accounts are required. GOOGLE WORKSPACE: There will be screen sharing from a Google Slides presentation, so no account is necessary. If your learner chooses to "make a copy" of any of the provided Worksheets or Templates in Google Docs/Slides, they will need a Google account. SAFETY: Since job searches & resumes are specific to each individual, I ask that you please remind your student of Outschool's safety policy and to be aware of it during our live class time. As a general rule, they shouldn't share any personal information about themselves or your family. Personal information can include, but is not limited to, full name, birthdate, personal email address, address, or phone number. If they feel comfortable, they can share their location at the country or state level, but it is not required.
