Class Experience

Do you love (or want to love) drawing people, but have difficulty drawing them in complex poses, or showing movement?
Join this class to practice sketching proportionate people in more natural, action poses-- we'll change our reference images each session, so learners can repeat this class for a different experience each time!

Learners will follow along with several short, teacher-led demonstrations, using gesture drawing to loosely sketch several figures in a range of different poses. This type of loose sketch can be refined into more polished drawings, although we will not have time to do so in this class session. Our goal is to create sketches that pose the body naturally and/or convey action.

I'll demonstrate strategies for drawing figures in different types of poses, step-by-step, while students follow along. We'll end class with several completed and proportionate human figures in interesting poses!

My intent is for students to end class with the confidence to continue practicing gesture drawing on their own!

I recommend that learners have some familiarity with figure proportions before taking this class. My class, Figure Drawing 101, is a good introduction: https://outschool.com/classes/figure-drawing-101-sketching-proportionate-people-tIptTq7j#us3u0MdGLD

Face & figure drawing is my favorite art discipline! I have years of experience creating my own drawings and sculptures, using the human form as inspiration, and I always brought my enjoyment and expertise to my students when we created figurative artworks. I have taught figure drawing to elementary, junior high, and high school age students for over a decade, and look forward to meeting more young artists who want to learn this skill!
