German Storytime 'Der Kleine Drache Kokosnuss und der Schwarze Ritter'
In this 3-week class the students will listen to the book 'Der kleine Drache Kokosnuss im Spukschloss' read by a native German speaker. Discussions are also in German. This class is for students fluent (for their age) in German.

In this Storytime I am going to read 2-3 chapters of the book 'Der kleine Drache Kokosnuss und der schwarze Ritter' (The small dragon Coconut and the black knight) by Ingo Siegner in every meeting. We will discuss words and content in German. This class is only for learners that are fluent (for their age) in the German language. I will not translate the stories into English. This said, if questions about the meaning of a word arise, we might translate single words to make sure they are understood. In this book, Kokosnuss and his friend Matilda are allowed to join his uncle Ingmar to protect an apple tree in the land of the knights. The knights want to cut down the tree and manage to lure Uncle Ingmar away. But Kokosnuss and Matilda have a plan and with the help of a poem singer they figure out how to get to the king and make sure that he won't ever cut the tree. It's a sweet book for kids ages 5-8, maybe 9. There are illustrations in the book on almost every page, so the kids get an idea on what Kokosnuss looks like and what he and his friends are up to. There are 30 books published in the series, but every book stands on his own and is pretty much one big adventure that Kokosnuss and his friends are experiencing. This is book 4. Every book stands on its own with a different adventure. While I read the story in class, I show the students a Powerpoint presentation of the pictures. I stop in between when I see interesting words and ask if the students understand them. At least after each chapter we talk about something specific that we just read. I might ask if they have an idea what the characters decision might be, how the story will go on or just if they have experienced something similar before in their lives, .... Week 1: Flug in das Reich der Ritter (Flight to the land of the knights), Am Drachenbaum (At the dragon's tree), Der schwarze Ritter (The black knight) Week 2: Die Honigfalle (The honey trap), Walter von der Blumenwiese (Walter by the flower field), Nachts in der Burg (At night in the castle) Week 3: Franz der Finstere (Franz the Dark), Wer ist stärker als ein Drache?
