German Skill-Builder: Projects

Guten Tag! In this German Skill-Builder class, you’ll spend 8 weeks working on one or more projects in German, projects of your own choosing. 

You work on your project, and every week you send me an update, a draft, or a finished product. I’ll provide you with individualized feedback on your project, including relevant “Targeted Learning Worksheets” for you to complete that target the exact grammar or vocabulary questions that you will help you become a more accurate and comprehensible writer and speaker of German.

When you’re done with one project, you simply move on to the next!

I have a PhD in German and 25+ years of experience teaching German, so I really know my stuff. I'm also a former homeschool mom who is warm and encouraging.

+ watch Mandalorian trailers in German
+ translate a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke
+ train your dog with German commands
+ label everything in your kitchen in German
+ read the chapter book Räuber Hotzenplotz
+ create a German joke book
+ learn a song from Schubert’s Wanderlieder cycle
+ make a video tutorial in German
+ research the Weavers’ Revolt of 1844
+ create a puppet version of Mozart’s opera Die Zauberflöte
+ make a stop-gap animation short of how to order at a food truck in Germany
+ learn the parts of an U-Boot in German
+ interpret a Paul Klee painting
+ create T-shirt designs with German sayings
+ decorate your room with inspirational quotes in German
+ make a playlist of 80s German music videos
+ learn to play Settlers of Catan in German
+ keep a food journal in German
+ create a “Memory Palace” to learn der/die/das
+ write postcards in German to a friend or family member
+ etc, etc, etc (including any project you come up with)

Although this class is listed under Outschool’s “self-paced” category, it really makes the most sense for you to take advantage of the full 8 weeks of the class, working on one or more projects for that time period.

Of course, if you really want to do just one project and you get done early, that’s fine. Whatever works for you.

Each week, you’ll post a draft/progress report/snapshot/excerpt/final version of your project.

Then, I’ll take a look. I’ll send you individualized feedback, including specially chosen Targeted Learning Worksheets (TLWs). I have more than 70 of these TLWs ready & waiting for you! Whatever grammar, vocabulary, or structural issue you’re ready to work on next, I’ve got you covered. 

When you’re done with one project, just go on to the next one! Some projects might take just one week, some projects might span multiple 8-week sessions. You can repeat the German Skill-Builder class indefinitely, and I highly recommend it as an ongoing part of your German studies.
