Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Advanced Level
Guten Tag! In this class, you’ll become a German grammar whiz!
+ You’ll learn or review all of the basic grammar points of German.
+ You’ll have the chance to learn or review more advanced grammar points.
+ You’ll practice, practice, practice to make everything familiar and automatic.

I so much hope you’ll sign up for the class! I’m passionate about helping students improve their knowledge of German grammar so that they can reach their goal of German fluency.

I have a PhD in German and 25+ years of experience teaching German, so I really know my stuff. I'm also a former homeschool mom who is warm and encouraging. I’m a careful explainer, and I provide lots of straightforward, clear examples. I know that if you take this class you will become a more knowledgeable, confident speaker and writer of German.

------------

German Grammar Training is perfect for…
- anyone who has taken my German 1 and German 2 classes & wants a thorough review of the basic grammar points
- anyone who is taking a German class on Outschool, at a traditional school, or in an immersion or weekend program & wants more targeted grammar practice
- anyone who speaks German at home & wants to become more accurate and literate in the written language
- anyone who is using Duolingo or another learning app & wants a structured, organized explanation of German grammar
------------

Each class covers 8 lessons. Take all four classes for the 32 lessons in the complete German Grammar Training course.

------------

The language of instruction is English. Examples, naturally, are given in German!

------------

This is a self-paced class, which means there are no live meetings on Zoom. Instead, you work your way through the pre-recorded, pre-written learning materials posted in the classroom.

The class is listed as an 8-week class because there are 8 lessons, but you can go through the course at whatever pace works best for you.
- If you finish before the 8 weeks are up, great—you can move on to the next class.
- If you need longer than the 8 weeks, no problem. Just let me know.

------------

Here’s what we’ll do each lesson:

1 – You’ll watch a 15-20 minute video on the lesson’s grammar topic.
I use two cameras: you’ll see me talking to you & you’ll see what I’m writing at my desk. I use big bright markers on a big sheet of paper so that you can easily follow the notes and examples.

You can kick back and just soak in the information, or you can sit up straight and take notes along with me—whatever works best for you. You can pause the video at any time to take a break, use the speed controls to move things along, or even repeat the video 2 or 3 times. This is your learning and you can do it your way, at your pace.

2 – I’ll post a worksheet on the lesson’s grammar topic.
Each lesson’s worksheet is divided into 3 challenge levels so that you can decide which exercises make the most sense for you. If you’re learning the grammar topic for the first time, you might do just Challenge Level 1. If you have a good grasp of the topic already and this is a review, you might skip right to Challenge Level 3. I also provide an answer key so that you can check your answers.

3 – I’ll post suggestions for further work.
I will refer you to relevant exercises in the textbook Kontakte (for those of you who own that book), and on a great website called “Grimm Grammar,” created by the University of Texas-Austin: https://coerll.utexas.edu/gg/.
