Class Experience

This is a German conversation course designed for upper elementary/middle school students, for beginners and advanced beginners.
Students would benefit from having taken the first part of “German Conversation”, since that’s where the students are introduced to the German alphabet and numbers, but it is not a requirement.

In this "German Conversation Course", we will cover various topics of daily life.
Week 1:
- Introductions and greetings
- Family
- Pets and animals
Week 2:
- Clothing
- Body Parts
- Going shopping
Week 3:
- Weather
- Modes of transportation
- Around the house

In this three-week course, your child will be introduced to and also practice their German conversational skills.
Practice outside of the class setting is needed, so as to promote learning and retention.
This 25-minute class is divided as follows:
- warm-up
- review/ practice
- new topic/ practice
- questions/end

This is an interactive class where your child will be able to start speaking German from the very beginning, using complete sentences. The students will interact with the teacher as well as with each other.
Please ensure your child reviews, repeats and learns the vocabulary as well as sentence structures between classes. This will ensure a successful, fun class.
Your child will be interacting with a German-American linguist, with a passion for teaching children about languages and other cultures.
We will start with a short introduction, followed by the presentation of the respective topic of the day. I will be using some realia, props, flash cards, and TPR (Total Physical Response). The student will learn various sentence patterns so as to be able to communicate in everyday situations.
I also pay close attention to correct pronunciation and enunciation.
There will be lots of interaction with the teacher and with each other. Since this class is a small-group class, the students will have plenty of opportunities to practice what they have learned.
I am looking forward to expanding your child's horizon in a fun and engaging way.
Bis bald,
Miss Sibylle.

Master's Degree in Foreign Language from Heidelberg University (Institute of Translation and Interpreting) in Heidelberg, Germany
My name is Sibylle Gray; I have four children and a passion for languages, reading, knitting, crocheting, painting, origami, learning about history and other cultures, hiking, fishing, and baking bread and cakes.
I hold a Master's Degree in Linguistics (English, German, Spanish).
I have taught in-class German at private co-ops to children ages five through sixteen and I have been an online ESL (English as a second language) teacher for over 5 years. I also have the 120-hour TEFL/TESOL certification.
Before going to university, I studied nursing and worked at a hospital as an R.N. I also worked on an ambulance for several years in addition to being a volunteer E.M.T. at the German Red Cross and a youth leader at the German Red Cross. I have a passion for the medical field and I enjoy being around other people.
I grew up bilingually and I have always enjoyed languages, history and other cultures. I was able to experience and compare the American and German culture first-hand, from which I have certainly benefited greatly.
Understanding and valuing other cultures are very important, especially in today's age and time. We all need to know more about each other so as to grow together and make the world a better place.
I am a passionate knitter and I am proud to say that my three older children all know how to knit and crochet. I love knitting hats, shawls, scarves, blankets, and many other things. I also love crocheting lace (using thread) and tatting.
I teach English (TEFL, TESOL, ESL) to international students and a few years year ago, one of my students introduced me to "origami". My children and I fell in love with origami and every evening, we get together to do origami.
I also enjoy painting with water colors and acrylics, and I love drawing. My favorite motifs are unicorns as well as kawaii, chibis and manga images.
When I am on the road, at a doctor's office, at the park, and even when we are fishing, you will find me either reading a book or knitting a hat or shawl (which might be the reason I haven't caught anything in a while :).
I would love to get to know your child and introduce him or her to the wonderful world of learning and having fun.
    Have a wonderful day,
    Miss Sibylle.
