Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
Beginner Level
"Play is one of the most important ways in which young children gain essential knowledge and skills." ~UNICEF, 2018

This class sets children up for a lifetime love of learning German. Through fun activities such as songs, rhymes, games, coloring, and drawing, learners will begin to enjoy the sights and sounds of German.

I'll start your child on the same joyful journey of learning German that I began as a child with my German mother and continued through college and beyond. I earned a B.A. in German, achieved professional fluency, and went on to serve for a year in the German Bundestag, a position of 100% language immersion. I will set your child on this same path to fluency. My goal is for the kids to be having so much fun, they won't even realize how much German they're learning!

Each meeting of this class combines a recorded lesson with a worksheet of fun activities for you to complete independently.

TEACHING METHOD
My teaching style is soft, warm, and soothing; I think of it as 70% Mister Rogers and 30% Bob Ross. You'll notice I keep the class video focused on my face, voice, and physical visual aids. Studies show kids in their formative years learn best through face-to-face interaction, so I don't rely on slides or virtual graphics that minimize me, the teacher. Learning in my class is deliberately-paced and human-centered, which creates a deeper, more permanent learning experience—even in an asynchronous class. Come give it a try!
