Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Intermediate Level
This is a "German Club" for students in high school German language classes. Learners are encouraged to bring along any questions and uncertainties they may have in their German language journeys! While the course supports language acquisition through review and practice, it also emphasizes learning strategies, concepts, and filling in gaps in student learning.

The course provides an encouraging and approachable atmosphere that caters to the needs and interests of the students enrolled in the course. Sessions will begin with reading, video, audio, or other material around a given topic, whether chosen by myself or learner-suggested. Learners will have the opportunity to practice with one another and with myself as appropriate. While I provide a structured timeline of topics, I adjust according to the desires and questions of the those in the class.

The structure of each session will be roughly as follows:
Introduction of topic for the session -- 5 minutes
Cover material (video, reading, lecture) -- 15 minutes
Learners practice -- 20 minutes
Summary and Questions -- 10 minutes

Sample topics of what we might do together in German Club:

Greetings and Getting to Know Each Other

I have taught German -- both classes and 1-on-1 -- to dozens of learners.

My students like my approachable teaching style, the sources I recommend, and my explanations of grammar.

I studied in German during undergraduate, spent my senior year at a German university, and then studied in an intensive German language program in Berlin, where I reached the C1 (CEFR) level.
