Class Experience

Let's learn German while we are decorating cookies!

In this one-time class, the children will learn German words to talk about baking and decorating while they are decorating their own winter cookie at home. They will learn how to present their individual cookie and will be encouraged to give positive feedback on others' creations.

Advisory:
In this class, we will not bake cookies. Nevertheless, please make sure you stay near younger learners when they work in the kitchen so that they are not at risk near hot stoves, ovens, and other hazards.

Please also ensure that your cookies and decorations - bought or baked by yourself - do not contain nuts, eggs, dairy products and other allergens if you or your learner have allergic reactions to any of those. Cookies often contain eggs, gluten, and other allergens, so please read the ingredients of your cookie and decorations carefully before you purchase them in a store or market. The teacher will not know the ingredients of your cookies and decorations as we are not baking together in class.

Baking and decorating cookies and gingerbread men has a long tradition in Germany during the winter time. Stories are told, songs are sung while family and friends gather to "add some icing" on the cold season.
This class is interactive and structured as follows:

- Greeting
- Lecture
- Decorating the cookie
- Song/Story
- Presentation of the cookie/ "Show and Tell"
- Feedback (in German)
- Good-bye

No prior knowledge of German is necessary.
Parents should stay nearby younger students while they are decorating.

I will encourage every child to speak in class by creating a friendly, relaxed, and safe learning atmosphere. We will use slides, pictures, real props and a song.

Hope to see you soon! Let's decorate!

Bis bald,
Nadine
