Hallo und Guten Tag! This project-based German High School Summer Camp for Beginners is a FLEX class, so there won’t be any LIVE meetings with the teacher. Nevertheless, learners will engage in the Outschool classroom with the teacher and the other learners. I will also be available to answer your questions and give feedback throughout the 4 weeks of this flex class. In each lesson, we will cover the four skills - listening, - speaking, - reading, - writing We will - listen to short audio texts to train global as well as selective listening, - build up new vocabulary, - prepare short everyday conversations in German, - practice pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar, - explore authentic situations and activities and train natural, spontaneous interaction. My video tutorial and all related materials for that week will be posted each week for you. Learners will be encouraged to share their completed mini-project of each week by uploading a video, a picture, or a PDF to our Outschool classroom. That way, other learners from your group will be able to interact with you, for example on your cool-looking flyer with those yummy German dishes. Then, the learners will engage more and more with each other by "ordering" food from their class mates through video that they upload or a "text message". The teacher has lived in Germany almost all her life and can contribute some insights as well as fun facts about German culture (Dos and Don'ts, idioms, everyday life, books and films, etc.) In this camp, we will use different kinds of texts, comic strips, activities, exercises, drawings, photos, videos, reference materials, grammar tables, verb lists, and a glossary. In addition, I will also use interactive, digital, and print materials that I have created over the course of my 16 years of teaching career preparing and assessing students for German universities (Abitur). Week 1: Food vocabulary Scavenger Hunt: Post a photo of food, e.g. a potato. Your class mates have to find a (German) dish with potatoes. German menu and dishes Week 2: Make your own menu and flyer for your own restaurant (involves research ) Interactive Poll: The favourite restaurant of the class Activity: "I have Wiener Schnitzel. You have Hamburgers." Week 3: giving opinion on food (phrases, verb conjugation): “I like … very much/not so much/not at all” Week 4: order food in a restaurant Interactive Activity: Order food from your classmate's restaurant through video or "text message" *By enrolling in this class, you may download and keep video tutorials and materials for as long as you like. However, please do not share or redistribute these materials without anyone outside of our classroom. Danke! No prior knowledge of German is needed. In this course, I will speak as much German as possible, but I am also specialized in explaining grammar in English and French if needed. Bis bald! Nadine
