In this ongoing weekly Geometry class, you will develop reasoning and problem solving skills as you study congruence and similarity, and apply properties of lines, triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles. You will also develop problem solving skills by using length, perimeter, area, circumference, surface area, and volume to solve real-world problems. In each weekly class, we will study a new Geometry topic. You can choose the day of the week that is most convenient for you. This class is relevant for those preparing for Geometry or wanting a refresher course before entering Algebra 1 and/or 2. Sessions will not build upon each other but do require a knowledge of Mathematics. I will teach concepts and give examples via a slide presentation. Once we have an understanding of the concepts, we will practice problems. Students will have time to practice the problems on their own. As I facilitate the problem via the slide presentation, students will be working on their own paper. Students will answer questions verbally or through the chat feature. For homework, I will provide a number of problems with answers for the students to work on. I will be available through the class for questions. Geometry topics that will be covered include: Parallel and Perpendicular Lines (find slopes of lines and graph equations of lines), Congruent Triangles (prove by SSS, SAS, hypotenuse leg, ASA, AAS), Relationships within Triangles (mid-segment, angle bisectors, inequalities), Right Triangles. Please note that materials will cycle every 12 weeks. I am available to teach any topic that the student may need help with. Geometry topics include: -Finding angles from 2 parallel lines and a transversal -Lines (find slopes of lines and intercepts) -Graph linear equations -Triangles (relationships: bisectors, mediums, altitudes) -Congruent Triangles: prove by SSS, SAS, hypotenuse leg, ASA, AAS -Right Triangles: find angles and sides by pythagorean theorem
Learning Goals
Students will both review and learn key Geometry concepts of lines and triangles.
Other Details
Supply List
Each student should have paper, a pencil and a basic calculator during the class. Graphing paper is helpful but not required.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
I will be using concepts and mathematical equations from, Holt McDougal, "Larson Geometry", 2012.

Teacher expertise and credentials
3 Degrees
Doctoral Degree in Education from University of New Mexico
Master's Degree from University of New Mexico
Bachelor's Degree from University of Minnesota
I have been teaching geometry and algebra through OutSchool since 2020. For 8 years, I taught geometric and algebraic equations to pre-engineering students. With my background in personal development and educational leadership, I will try to motivate students and encourage them to appreciate the application of geometry in real world situations.
