Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Calling all Mathematicians! We need your help!!! The STAR Students of Galaxy Elementary School are faced with yet another mystery!! Sophia, Trey, Anthony and Rosa were looking forward to Mrs. G. announcing what they earned as a class prize. However, Mrs. G. being the math teacher that she is, disguised their announcement as a puzzle. Use your awesome geometry skills to find shapes in order to solve the mystery - The Case of the Puzzling Prize Puzzle!

Through this fun and interactive one time class, learn about, practice and/or review the essential math skill of geometry. We will start as a whole class to read about the mystery at hand and get to know the STAR Students of Galaxy Elementary School. Then, I will teach the main lesson and then students will go into breakout rooms to complete a fun math themed mystery on their own. They will work through a series of math puzzles in order to find clues. As the teacher, I will be checking in on each student to help them navigate the mystery and support students as needed.

In addition to covering math topics, learners will have the opportunity to put their reading and critical thinking skills to practice as well!

This class is designed as a breakout room / virtual escape room type class!

Skills needed:
Reading: Approximately third grade level
Some background knowledge and experience with geometry will be helpful. If students are experienced with these skills, this class would be a great and fun review for them!

*This class runs best with at least 3 students. If there are less than 3 students, I am still happy to teach the class, but please note that the class might not run the full hour (the class is naturally longer with more students!). If you would prefer to be transferred to another section, please let me know at least 24 hours prior to the start of class.*

Learning Goals

Students will be exposed to and practice geometry related skills.
A fair amount of reading will be part of this assignment as well.

Welcome! My name is Mrs. G and I am SO excited for the opportunity to work with children around the world through Outschool. I have a strong passion for giving children the best education possible and to make learning FUN! Ever since I began teaching, I feel incredibly fulfilled and I wake up excited every morning to go to school, NOT work. Teaching has never felt like a job to me, but a lifestyle; something that is just a part of who I am.

Through the platform of Outschool, I look forward to putting my own creativity to use and design fun, educational experiences. As of now, I am going to be teaching through the creative avenue of "escape rooms". Students will enter the fictional world of the STAR Students (Sophie, Trey, Anthony, and Rosa) of Galaxy Elementary School. These four students need the help of Outschool students to solve various mysteries that will be uncovered through clues. The only way to receive clues is by solving math problems and/or answering ELA questions. Outschool students will join the STAR students on an educational adventure during each one of my classes!!

I also have a strong passion for writing and specifically, supporting students by teaching strategies to help improve their writing. I love helping developing authors find their voice, creativity, and passion for writing!

A little bit about my professional background: I have experience as a third grade teacher of students with an IEP, Gifted and Talented students, and everyone in between. That being said, I am comfortable teaching a wide variety of grades and ages. While teaching, I served as my school's literacy and technology coach. This means I supported my colleagues as an instructional coach by providing professional development, coming into their classrooms to help their instruction, and opening my classroom doors for observation.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Psychology, a minor in Early Childhood Education and a certificate in Leadership. In 2020, I also obtained a Master's degree in Educational Leadership with a supervisor and principal certificate.

In September, I gave birth to a baby girl! I am currently on maternity leave but I miss teaching so much that I am excited to have the opportunity to teach online!
