Coordinate Geometry
Coordinate Geometry
1.Understanding Geometric Shapes: Students should be able to identify and describe different geometric shapes such as points, lines, angles, polygons, circles, and solids.
2.Properties of Shapes: Students should understand the properties of geometric shapes, including angles, side lengths, and relationships between shapes (e.g., congruence, similarity).
3.Measurement: Students should be able to measure various geometric quantities such as lengths, angles, areas, and volumes using appropriate tools and formulas.
4.Geometric Constructions: Students should learn how to construct various geometric figures using a straightedge and compass, such as perpendicular bisectors, angle bisectors, and parallel lines.
5.Coordinate Geometry: Students should understand the relationship between algebraic equations and geometric shapes on the coordinate plane, including equations of lines, distance formula, and midpoint formula.
6.Transformations: Students should be able to perform and understand transformations such as translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations, and how they affect the position and orientation of geometric figures.
7.Reasoning and Proof: Students should develop the ability to use deductive reasoning to prove geometric theorems and solve geometric problems.
8.Applications: Students should apply geometric concepts to real-world situations, such as calculating areas of fields, volumes of containers, or angles in architectural designs.
9.Technology Integration: Students should learn how to use technology tools (such as geometry software or graphing calculators) to explore and visualize geometric concepts.
10.Communication: Students should be able to communicate their mathematical thinking clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, when solving geometric problems or explaining geometric concepts
Homework Offered
Light homework will be offered after each class to solidify the understanding of the concept learned. At the beginning of next class we will check homework answers. All assignments will be expected for all students.
