What's included
1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Optional homework will be provided at the conclusion of the lesson for students to continue practicing the skills of solving for arc measures and arc lengths. The questions will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes for students to solve independently and an answer key will be provided upon request.Assessment
Students will be informally assessed in the warm-up activity to determine the geometry skills and knowledge that they are bringing into this session. Throughout the class, guided practice problems will be used to measure students level of understanding. At the conclusion of the class, independent questions will be provided for students to demonstrate mastery of the concepts presented.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 9
This class focuses on the arc measures and lengths for circles. Students should have an introductory grasp of circles (circumference and area formulas) as well as solving for algebraic equations. We will review these concepts and then dive into solving for arc measures and arc lengths. We will have a warm-up activity to assess students' knowledge and skills, present the formulas and example problems, and then allow students to work through practice questions with guidance. After the class, additional problems will be available for students to continue practicing these concepts. This session will offer short segments of lecture/explanation but will be mostly focused on students working through practice problems with me and with each other. Students will have the opportunity to explain their thinking and to ask questions to further understanding. No materials other than paper and pencil are required for this class. All practice problems will be displayed on the screen and an optional homework assignment will be available to print at the conclusion of the lesson.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the definitions of geometric terms for circles as well as how to solve for a circle's arc length and arc measurement by applying the appropriate formulas and solving for the variable.
