Intermediate Level
Welcome to Geology Semester 2 where we apply whay was learnt in Geology Semester 1 to selected past exam questions from NY Regents Earth Science exams. Each topic will start with an introduction to the subject with more opportunity for discussion than in Semester 1. This will be followed by the group to answering some selected past questions from New York Regents Earth Science exams. These are great questions that really test the students knowledge and are also fun puzzles to solve and work through together. The whole course is a great way of reinforcing and cementing all the knowledge that was gained in Geology Semester 1. Geology Semester 2 can be taken without Semester 1 for more advanced students. TOPICS COVERED INCLUDE: Weeks 1-4 - Plate Tectonics Weeks 5-8 - Rock Dating and Stratigraphy Weeks 9 - 12 - Minerals, Gems and Precious Metals Weeks 13 - 15 Igneous Rocks and Volcanoes We will also take our time when ever necessary to discuss any significant current Geological events like Earthquakes, Volcanoes or Fossil discoveries that are in the news. Each topic will start with an intro class that may take 1 to 2 weeks, followed by 2 to 3 weeks working through questions and discussing the topics in more depth. Great for students who want have a class that is more interactive and in depth on all the amazing topics that Geology covers.

Parental Guidance
Some classes talks about Global Warming and Climate Change causing more frequent natural disasters. It also talks about mass extinctions including the possibility of humans causing one now (including ourselves) and has some drawn images of animals dying to become fossils. It is delivered in a upbeat manner with positive solutions (eg: switching to renewable energy), but the more sensative students may find these topics distressing.
