Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Important - This class suggests materials from Amazon. Check the materials section. If you enroll and cannot get the materials, students can crack open a rock you find at your home. Don't let that keep you from this fun class.

**Please note - Do not enroll if you are below the age listed.** This is for maturity reasons.

This is a 2-day class that will dive into the world of geology, more specifically, gems, geodes and crystals. This is a fun topic that students enjoy learning about and collecting.

Class 1
We will cover minerals and gemstones in this class. We begin by diving into the types of minerals we find today, how are they mined, and their importance to us, the natural resources used by these minerals, and more. We will then learn about how these minerals create gemstones. We will also see the most popular gemstones that are created and mined, discuss birthday gemstones, see a few examples, and more. This class is packed full of fun information, videos, and discussion.

Class 2
We will finish up our learning by covering geodes and crystals. We will see how each of them are formed and then at the end we will compare gemstones, geodes, and crystals to see the true differences between them. At the very end of class, we will crack our own geodes open if your student has them. If not they can crack open a rock you find at home. Sometimes we are shocked to find Geodes in your very own front yard. Students will also have show and tell time at the end of class one to show off their own gems and geodes they have collected or cracked open in class.

At the end of class, I will post two activities you can do at home. One is for growing your own Geodes and one if for growing your own Edible Crystals. These will be in a document and uploaded to the class.

We will cover a good amount of information and have some fun discussions on this topic, so please only enroll if your student is in the age range listed or only one year younger or older than the listed age. Come join the fun and learn about the awesome wonders that Earth creates.
Learning Goals
Students will learn all about gems, geodes, and much more.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Some parental guidance may be needed for the breaking of geodes if your student is younger.
Supply List
You do need a hammer or something to break the geodes. Goggles should come with the kit, but if not, please make sure your student has goggles or protective glasses. You will also need space and a hard surface that cannot be hurt by cracking these open.

Choose ONE of these kits to order for the last day of class. If you want to order another kit with more geodes, you can, but please make sure it is similar to these. I have included a variety of kits and prices to choose from.

Any geode kit will work. This is not required but if they do not have one, it will be a bit boring for them to sit and watch others do it.

My name is Savannah. I am married to a wonderful guy, and recently became a new mom to a beautiful little girl. I enjoy family and friends, and I love to travel. I have traveled to over 20 countries and love experiencing the world.

First off, I am a certified teacher of 9 years in English, Social Studies, and Science. I also have a Bachelor’s in Business, a Master’s in Marketing, and a Master’s in Teaching.

My passion for teaching took me to the classroom for a time, and then I taught for the largest Charter School in the US. I am well versed in all grade levels and all subjects due to teaching for a charter. In addition to that, I have worked in the education field in various forms for the past 8+ years.

I have created reading plans for the younger levels, worked on testing and writing skills with many grades, worked on ACT and GED prep, and so much more. I have done a bit of everything.

I enjoy taking a student where they are and helping them grow to their fullest potential. I strive for students to not only succeed, but to believe in themselves. I like to make learning FUN! Education is something that is no longer valued as much in our society, and we need to correct that. Education unlocks the door to the future.

If your student is struggling with any topic or you just want them to be engaged and learn about fun things, I would be glad to teach them a class. I look forward to it!
