US Grade 3 - 6
Gain an introduction to the many branches and fields of geology through hands on science experiments, creative art projects, discussion, specimen identification, slideshows, and games. Erupt volcanoes while learning about the rock cycle, create fossils while learning about paleontology, learn to identify rocks and fossils, test minerals, or build a landform diorama. At the beginning of each class, there will be an opportunity for introductions, sharing, and guided discussion. Students may bring items to class to share related to geology such as rocks, crystals, fossils, geodes, a rock tumbler, rock books, rock art, etc. Each week will be independent of each other, and learners may join at any time. Classes are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays with the below weekly schedules. Please note that the schedules are different. 2025 Schedule ____________________________________________________________________ PALEONTOLOGY January 6: From Dig Site to Fossil Lab- Paleontology January 13: The Geologic TimeLine January 20: The Megalodon and Ancient Sharks January 27: Prehistoric Marine Invertebrates (ammonite, trilobite, orthoceras) February 3: Ice Age Mammals (saber tooth cat, wooly mammoth, giant sloth) February 10: Extinct Birds and Mammals (tasmanian tiger, dodo, terror birds) ARCHEOLOGY February 17: Arrowheads and Artifacts February 24: Architecture of Ancient Civilizations March 3: Cave Art and Prehistoric Humans SPELEOLOGY March 10: Caves of the World March 17: Cave Creatures PLEASE NOTE: Class will not be held on March 24 MARINE GEOLOGY March 31: Submarine Volcanoes April 7: Tectonic Plates and Deep Ocean Trenches April 14: Hydrothermal Features ASTROGEOLOGY April 21: Rocks in Space April 28: Journey through the Solar System to Mars MINERALOGY May 5: Mineral Matching May 12: Geodes and Agates PETROLOGY May 19: The Rock Cycle _______________________________________________________________ The following Nature Explorers animals may occasionally make live appearances: Scaly: the Corn Snake Slimy: the Tiger Salamander Lizzie: The Leopard Gecko Classes may run up to five minutes over the scheduled time depending on learner discussion and questions.

I am offering this class because I am experienced in teaching about the rock cycle and have had a lifelong passion for geology, ever since I was growing up in the Rocky Mountains and won my third grade science fair project with a rock cycle experiment!
