Gain an introduction to the many branches and fields of geology through hands on science experiments, creative art projects, discussion, specimen identification, slideshows, and games. Erupt volcanoes while learning about the rock cycle, create fossils while learning about paleontology, learn to identify rocks and fossils, test minerals, or build a landform diorama. At the beginning of each class, there will be an opportunity for introductions, sharing, and guided discussion. Students may bring items to class to share related to geology such as rocks, crystals, fossils, geodes, a rock tumbler, rock books, rock art, etc. Each week will be independent of each other, and learners may join at any time. Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays with the below weekly schedules: September 9 (Monday class only): Geodes and Agates Week of September 16: The Shapes of Landforms Week of September 23: The Layers of the Earth Week of September 30: Seismology and Earthquakes Week of October 7: Volcanology and Lava Week of October 14: Igneous Investigations Week of October 21: Sedimentary Stories Week of October 28: Metamorphic Magic Week of November 4: Crystallography Week of November 11: Mineralogy Testing Week of November 18: The Types of Fossils Week of November 25: Paleontology Week of December 2: Dinosaurs Week of December 9: Ice Age Mammals and Birds Week of December 16: Ancient Sea Creatures and Giant Sharks The following Nature Explorers animals may occasionally make live appearances: Scaly: the Corn Snake Slimy: the Tiger Salamander Lizzie: The Leopard Gecko Classes may run up to five minutes over the scheduled time depending on learner discussion and questions.

I am offering this class because I am experienced in teaching about the rock cycle and have had a lifelong passion for geology, ever since I was growing up in the Rocky Mountains and won my third grade science fair project with a rock cycle experiment!
