Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
In this four week course we will discover how the Earth and its life have changed overtime. Students will explore how Earth’s geology and climate have transformed and influenced each other over unimaginably long periods of time.

We will explore the processes that cause the planet to change, how scientists study the past, and ow life may have looked.

Learners will investigate questions such as:

- How do we measure geologic time?
- Why are the continents and oceans different today from the past?
- How is life impacted by the planet’s climate?
- What was prehistoric life like?
- How do we study Earth’s history?

This is a highly interactive course. Students will learn through an image and video filled presentation and discussion. Students’ participation and questions are regularly encouraged. No previous knowledge in the subject is required.

Classes are designed to encourage student engagement and follow their curiosity.

Each week we will examine one of the eons of Earth’s history and the eras within them.

Hello! My name is Arwen, and I am absolutely passionate about space science, the environment, and teaching! I offer courses about the solar system, planets, natural processes, soil, and the environment. I am a NASA Solar System Ambassador and science author. My Master's is in Space Science, and I have undergraduate degrees in Agricultural Ecology, and Natural Resource Management. I am currently working on a doctorate in STEM education.

I believe curiosity and learning are human instincts. I try to honor that by asking the learners lots of questions and encouraging them to think about information in new ways.

When not teaching, you can find me hosting "Found in Space: A Science Podcast for Kids and Teens" or playing Dungeons and Dragons and exploring the Southwest with my three homeschooled kiddos and our big, fluffy orange cat named Moose!

I like to keep class sizes small so each learner can get individualized and full attention. Please feel free to reach out.
