GEOGRAPHY WITH MS. SHANIN: USA - STATE OF THE WEEK Welcome to "State of the Week with Ms. Shanin!” I am Ms. Shanin; I love books, teaching, animals, laughing and learning. My teaching style is best described as flexible, engaging and fun. I really enjoy getting to know my students, and making sure that they are getting what they need out of my classes. This is an ongoing weekly class; meaning students will be enrolled on a subscription basis...
Students will learn about geography themes in relation to one state every week,or all 50 states and USA territories throughout a 52 week subscription. Some of the themes will include: location, place, human environment interaction, movement, and regions.
A State of the Week Information Page will be needed for every week of class. This document out can be found in the classroom, after students' enroll. There is an option to use either Google Slides (for a digital workbook for all of the states) or Google Docs (for a printable copy). Let me know if you have any questions.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will be using Google Slides as a student workbook, students will need access to an unblocked Google account (some school computers have blocks that do not allow outside links). Every student will have their own individualized Google Slides that is only shared with me. Optionally, students can print out the Google Doc to use in place of the Slides. I will be using screen sharing to show student several websites with maps, geographically research, images and etc. Students will not be able to access the sites on their own; the screen shares will only be the select sections that they need to use to collect research information.
We will refer to several websites with various maps and geographical information and images, however all will be only view as a screen share with no direct student access.
