Climb aboard the memory train with me! Let's commit these state names/shapes/locations to memory! Print the map and state outlines that I provide in the classroom message board. You will need these to help you during the class. For half of the class we will have a quiz-style discussion as I hold up state outline shapes. Students will determine what the state is and where it goes. Then we will use Seterra.com and Wordwall.net to work together to get high scores on the games. The students will take turns or volunteer for each answer. This class is great for those kids who learn better visually and/or orally. Some kids store information really well as pictures. Some kids learn best when they talk about the information. We will do both! Plus the social/teamwork aspect of the games will motivate the students to be correct so they get better scores. This class can be taken more than once. The students are not expected to memorize all fifty states in one class. They will master a few more each time. The more they practice the more they will remember. So, I invite you to begin or continue your state-learning journey with me! It's a wonderful world out there - let's learn about it!
Learning Goals
The students will improve their mastery of state names, locations, and shapes. They will do this by seeing the shapes, talking about the names and seeing the locations on the map. Playing the game will improve retention.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi everyone! I'm very thankful to be added to this wonderful group of amazing teachers and super students! I'm a homeschool mom + reading specialist + ESL teacher. We have 8 kids ages 14-29 so homeschooling has been part of my life for a long time. I found out early on that my favorite thing to teach is reading. It's such an important skill! I use the Barton Reading and Spelling System for most of the reading teaching that I do. More recently I have discovered teaching English online. I thoroughly enjoy teaching children in China to speak our beautiful language. I'm so excited to have found a fantastic ESL program called Off2Class that I can use with kids on Outschool.
I have a Bachelor's degree in sociology and education from the State University of New York at Fredonia. I've been teaching in a variety of settings ever since. This includes homeschool (pre-k through 12th grade), children's programs at church, two private Christian schools, private tutoring business and online ESL (VIPKid).
I love seeing kids smile during class and I understand the importance of student engagement and participation in the learning process. I will provide lots of opportunities for your student to interact with me and the learning materials. Let's have a great time improving reading and English skills!
