Class Experience

In this course students will:

i. Learn about the nature of 'Genius' and what qualities and characteristics enable Genius to emerge in each of us and others,
ii. Learn how they can coax their Genius to emerge through specific practices, habits, strategies and interactions with others (parents, friends, mentors, etc.)
iii. gain confidence and confirmation about their own genius.

Class Details: In Class 1, the class leader will describe and showcase inspiring examples of genius we might discover all around us when we really open our eyes to see how it lives in individuals and groups or teams. Then we will review and discuss the What and How of Genius, as described above.

In Class 2, students will have an opportunity to ‘showcase’ (show and tell) aspects of their 'genius' - that is, the things they are focusing on in their learning lives and through their passions and interests (5-minute maximum). Maybe that's a physical skill or a hobby or talent they are developing. Finally we will review strategies to help overcome challenges, such as when an inner voice cries out, "Help! I'm stuck, I can't do this!!" You can do it! and we'll learn how.

Throughout the classes, learners will be invited to ask questions, share ideas, and deepen their understandings about all notion of ‘genius’. And don't worry, there will be NO judgment about what is shared or presented; like the development of genius, our 'genius hour' sees no 'failure', ever, in the processes we bring to our learning. Specifically, students will learn about the nature of genius as it connects to our world and gain confidence and confirmation about their own genius.

No background knowledge is required - come as you are! Homework will be to observe and report back on aspects of genius you observe around you, or are developing in your life. By the end of our two classes students will know genius when they see it in others, and they will have more confidence in growing their own areas of genius.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a long-time coach and educator I enjoy working to help others see and grow their own areas of genius, as others have helped me. Long ago I came to understand that 'Genius' is much broader than having super-hero skills in sports or business or school, and that it does in fact live in each of us. I also agree with author Michael Meade who asserts in his recent book, 'The Genius Myth' (2016), "the real work of humanity at this time may be to awaken the unique spark and inner resiliency of genius within each person." I'm here to serve this ideal. And my own Genius lives through writing, music, 'mushrooming', DIY-ing, and a few other areas, too!
