The course will explain the genetic basis of mutations, discuss various types of mutations and their causes. It will focus primarily on examples of unusual forms of mutations in humans. It will cover the genetic basis for each mutation and discuss the effects of each mutation on the afflicted individual. Students will learn the genetic basis of mutations, and understand the various types of mutations and their possible causes. They will be introduced to the modern genetics concepts of DNA, genes, meiosis, and chromosomes to explain how traits are inherited. They will see examples of unusual genetic abnormalities and will gain knowledge of the mutations that caused them.
No homework or prior reading is required

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
There will be graphic displays of people with real genetic abnormalities. The individuals will be presented in a respectful and scientifically focused manner
