Beginner Level
Part 4 is a course that goes further into Genetics than Parts 1, 2, and 3. It is advised to take those three classes prior to this Part 4 class. *Please note that I prefer students to keep their video open while in my lab classroom and keep chatroom conversation to a minimum. After listening to a short lecture and video (from Youtube), students will learn by assembling an in-depth model of a cell, learn what is protein synthesis, learn how to do a dihybrid Punnet square, and design a My Classroom rules: Listen to the Teacher. No talking while Teacher Pat speaks. If you want to ask or answer a question; please raise your hand. Speak when your name is called. I do prefer video cameras without background during class time. Limit chat room discussions. Enjoy learning Genetics! Day 1 Let’s learn to read a pedigree chart worksheet. Students need color pencils. Day 2 Using a worksheet we will learn the process of protein synthesis and use the codons to determine their amino acids using color pencils and we color code each nitrogen base. Day 3 Using a worksheet we will learn how to step-by-step do a Dihybrid Punnet square using paper and pencil. Day 4 Using Playdoh we will recreate a future human using different traits that a future genetic engineer may think of.

dihybrid Punnett squares, protein synthesis, and think like a genetic engineer of the future.

Parental Guidance
Topics may be disturbing for some students who are unaware of how scientists are using Genetics. Creating designer babies may involve some reproductive references. I do my best to make it age-appropriate. If I can't answer directly, I will let them know to ask their parents.
