This introduction to AI and Generative AI allows students to explore these exciting new technologies. There is no previous coding or computer science knowledge needed for this class! Students will learn what actually is AI, the history of AI, and then some common uses of AI in our world today. Students will start learning the foundations of this exciting field and more importantly how they can start utilizing these technologies in the future.
Over 5,000 students from nearly 100 countries across a variety of platforms have started coding in one of my classes. I offer classes covering the foundations of Python and AI. I am the author of the soon-to-be released book All About Python for Kids. Before teaching, I worked as a developer for nearly 10 years. I've worked for organizations including Apple, Dell, and Best Buy. I believe the best way to learn is by doing and all my classes are based around hands-on projects that progressively build in difficulty. I'm a graduate of Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. I can't wait to meet your learner in the class and get started soon.
Homework Offered
Students will be assigned optional review questions and practice exercises each day of the camp. Some questions will be reviewed in class and answers will be posted in the Outschool classroom. Students can send a message through Outschool or post a comment in the classroom if they have specific questions.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

Students can use any laptop or desktop computer with a modern browser. It is recommended to update the browser (Chrome, Safari, Bing, Firefox, etc.) before the first class. Bing chat and the Craiyon AI do not require an account registration. An Open AI account is required for the use of ChatGPT, and it is required that adults help their learner register.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
***Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and specifically generative AI technologies that will be used for parts of this course can produce a variety of outputs. Sometimes these outputs may be inappropriate, offensive, or biased in a variety of ways. This is possible while learners are using these technologies during class and also outside of class. There will be a class dedicated to how these issues occur with AI and machine learning projects. Then what steps can be taken to reduce the possibility this happens.**** Learners will utilize Bing Chat or the ChatGPT interface to learn more about prompt engineering and large language models. Students will then learn more about image generation using the Crayon AI Image Generator. Bing chat and the Craiyon AI do not require an account registration. An Open AI account is required for the use of ChatGPT and it is required that adults help their learner register.
