1 hour per week. Articles to read; simple questions to answer each week. Three quizzes and a character analysis. This class can be taken for a grade or for a certificate of completion if the learner does not want to complete the weekly activities/assignments.

Week #2 -  Biological Aspects of Psychology - Discussion of the Central Nervous System and Peripheral Nervous System; Neurotransmitters and Functions of Parts of the Brain
Week #3 -  Biological Aspects of Psychology Continued. Role of the brain in medical issues such as Traumatic Brain Injury, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, CTE and Mental Health Issues such as Depression and Anxiety. 
Week #4 - Consciousness - Continuum of Consciousness, Stages of Sleep and Dreaming, Sleep Disorders
Week #5 - Consciousness Continued - Hypnosis, Drugs
Week #6 - Health, Stress and Coping - Identifying Physical and Psychological Effects of Stress on Body and Coping Strategies
Week #7 - Personality - Theories of Personality including Psychoanalytic, Cognitive, Humanistic, and Behavioral and Famous Theorists
Week #8 - Psychological Testing and Assessment - Subjective (MMPI and Five Factors) and Projective Personality Testing (TAT, HTP, Rorschach Inkblot)
Week #9 - Psychological Disorders - Anxiety Disorders and Schizophrenia (Etiology, Symptoms and Treatments), Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Disorder and Phobias.
Week #10 - Psychological Disorders - Mood Disorders and Personality Disorders; Childhood Disorders - Major Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Autistic Spectrum 
Week #11 - Social Psychology - Part I - Compliance, Conformity and Obedience, Aggression and Frustration

Other Details

Parental Guidance
There is discussion at one point about cults (Jim Jones) and obedience to a cult leader as well as brief references to Hitler when we talk about Milgram's studies in Obedience. Violence is also mentioned when discussing the bystander effect and deindividuation but We do not go into graphic detail but it can be disturbing hearing about violence and mass suicides. The content is developmentally age appropriate. We also discuss drugs and mental illness. If a student brings up inappropriate content for the class or appears to be emotionally bothered by any of the topics I will follow up with the student and/or parent.

I will provide any materials that are needed other than basic pen/pencil and paper.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

My degrees are a BS in Psychology, an MS in Mental Health Counseling and all but dissertation for a PHD in Psychology. I was a counselor for 10 years and have taught psychology courses for the past 20 years. I have a passion working with teenagers and hope to focus on topics in psychology that I have found my students to have enjoyed over the years. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor.
