In this course, students will have an overview of the 8 parts of speech and a concentration on five of them (nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs). Students will receive guided practice with each concept. They will receive feedback from the teacher, and she will correct errors as needed. Each day will end with a fun review of the content. DAY 1: An overview will be given of the 8 parts of speech (noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, interjection). Students will view definitions, examples of each part of speech, and how each one can be used. Study will begin of nouns and pronouns and continue on the following day. The teacher and students will review the content of the day DAY 2: We will review the definition of a noun. Students will be given examples of the four categories of nouns (person, place, thing, idea) and distinguish which are concrete or abstract. Students will have the opportunity to then brainstorm and create their own lists of nouns and sentences. The teacher will present and discuss 4 rules of making nouns plural. We will then review the definition of a pronoun. The teacher will present the 7 subject pronouns and examples of how to correlate/match a noun or nouns with a subject pronoun. The students will match subject pronouns to nouns and form simple sentences with subject pronouns. The teacher and students will review the content of the day. DAY 3: We will review the definition of a verb. Students will be given examples of the base forms of Action Verbs and encouraged to add to the list. The students will then be given the opportunity to use the present and past tenses of these verbs in simple sentences with the teacher's guidance. The students will be given examples of the base and conjugated forms of Linking Verbs in the present and past tenses. They will then be asked to form simple sentences in the present and past tenses of these verbs. The teacher and students will review the content of the day. DAY 4: We will review the definition of an adjective. Students will be given several examples of adjectives and an activity in which to use them by creating their own sentences with the teacher's guidance. The teacher and students will review the content of the day. DAY 5: We will review the definition of an adverb. The students will be given a list of several adverbs, grouped into five categories, according to what an adverb answers (how? where? when? how much? how often?). The adverb activity will entail combining the sentences created in the adjective activity with appropriate adverbs of their choosing. The teacher and students will review the content of the day.

This class is being offered as an important step in building a solid foundation of English grammar. Grammar has always been a skill set that I have taken ownership of and genuinely enjoyed. Consequently, implementing these skills has undergirded my ability to become an effective writer and teacher. Therefore, it is my goal to replicate my knowledge base into the minds of my students.
