Class Experience
Learners will make predictions while reading, examine elements of plot, analyze character traits and motivation, assess genre, and explore theme and symbolism.
Besides over fifteen years of teaching experience, I have specialized training and professional development in inclusivity and sensitivity in teaching. My background is in Montessori education, and peace education is a major tenet of the Montessori philosophy. My Montessori 6-9 certification, Montessori 12-18 certification, and Montessori Education Master's all included extensive work in peace education, conflict resolution, and inclusivity training. I am always available to help you with conversations that may arise at home as well.
Every week the learner will have chapters to read, discussion questions to answer, and one or two written assignments.
Learners will need a copy of Gathering Blue. All reading will be completed as homework (including chapters before the class start date). Discussions will take place in the Outschool classroom. There will be handouts and assignments that work best if printed, but a printer is not required.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Weekly discussion posts, assignments, and comprehension quizzes will be used to assess the understanding and comprehension of the learner.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
This novel contains some sensitive topics, such as death. It is read widely, especially by those 10 years of age and older.
