**NOTE: This class is ONLY for Mac-based GarageBand production, and NOT iOS (iPad, iPhone) devices. There are significant differences between the Mac-based and the iOS-based versions of GarageBand and it is too confusing to try to teach to all the platforms in the same class. Also, note that this class is also offered as a flex class!...
Learners will learn the basics of audio/music production with GarageBand and learn recording, editing, and mixing techniques that can be applied to just about any style or genre of music. While I will be teaching styles that include drums, bass, etc., the learner is free to create a project in any style they choose. By the end of the six weeks, the learner will hopefully have successfully produced a song in GarageBand and have the opportunity to share it with the class.
Throughout my career, I have worked in professional studio productions (as a session player and as a producer and music editor), and also created lots and lots of tracks for various projects and performances using DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software, including GarageBand, Ableton Live, ProTools, Reaper, etc.
Learners will be expected to work on their projects outside of class each week so that it will be in a final form by the end of the six weeks to share with the class, if desired.
Learners who wish to create their own project during the six week class will need a Mac computer with GarageBand already installed. If they want to use a MIDI keyboard and/or live instruments or a microphone, they will be responsible for connecting and configuring those within their computer's operating system in order to have them available in GarageBand. ***NOTE: iOS devices such as iPads and iPhones cannot be used for the material being learned in this class. This class will only be working with GarageBand for Mac, a significantly different product and process from the iOS version.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
If they choose to share their project for the last class showcase and review, there will be opportunities to offer feedback on what they have accomplished.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
