Class Experience

The Phonics First Curriculum, developed by Brainspring, is a multisensory, structured, and sequential approach rooted in Orton-Gillingham principles. It focuses on phonics-based, direct instruction to teach reading and spelling. The curriculum is ideal for struggling readers, including those with Dyslexia, ADHD, and learning disabilities. It includes 145 lessons that cover phonics, syllabication, and sight words, offering hands-on activities to improve decoding, fluency, and spelling.

The Phonics First curriculum consists of three key levels: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. The Basic Layer introduces letter-sound relationships and short vowel sounds, while the Intermediate Layer focuses on more complex skills like digraphs, blends, and syllable division. The Advanced Layer delves into multisyllabic words, affixes, and Greek/Latin roots. Each layer uses multisensory, Orton-Gillingham methods to build phonemic awareness, decoding skills, and fluency, ensuring a solid foundation in reading and spelling.
Learning Goals
Decoding Multisyllabic Words: Students will learn strategies to decode complex words across all learning layers, from basic consonants and vowels to advanced diphthongs and spelling rules.
Strengthen Phonemic Awareness and Fluency: Students will improve their phonemic awareness and reading fluency through multisensory activities, enhancing their ability to read and spell words accurately.

Hi there! I'm passionate about helping students build the skills and confidence they need to thrive academically. I teach reading intervention classes specifically designed for 4th through 6th graders who need support with decoding, fluency, and vocabulary to confidently tackle grade-level texts. My classes focus on systematic, research-backed strategies that empower students to become strong, independent readers.

I hold a master’s degree in Reading and have extensive experience as an Orton-Gillingham tutor, providing specialized support to students with reading challenges. In addition to my teaching, I’ve spent nearly 10 years coaching elementary school teachers, helping them implement effective reading and literacy strategies in their classrooms. This experience has given me deep insight into how children learn best, and I bring that knowledge to every lesson I teach.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every student can succeed when given the right tools and encouragement. I emphasize growth, perseverance, and a positive mindset in every lesson, ensuring that each child feels capable and empowered on their reading journey.

When I'm not teaching, I love spending time with my family. I also enjoy pilates, reading, experimenting with new smoothie recipes, and finding ways to make learning fun and engaging for my students!

I look forward to meeting your child and helping them grow as a reader!
