Do you love to play your Nintendo Switch? Do you love collecting old Nintendo consoles and want to share your passion? Come and show off your newest or your favorite game. We will not actually be playing these games in class, the focus of this class is on sharing and improving social skills using a topic that many kids already love. This class is for boys ages 8-12. We will start the class with a few ice breaking questions. Then, students will have 2-3 minutes to talk about their favorite games and any games or items related to the Nintendo. Each class, students will vote on a "Game of the Week" for the following week. I will use trivia specifically for that game. Even if a student is not familiar with the "Game of the Week", they are encouraged to join us to give it a try AND help to vote on the next game. Not every class, but many classes, I will share some Nintendo memorabilia from my family's collection. Items may include things like: ROB the Robot, Virtual Boy, Nintendo Power magazine. The last 5-10 minutes of class is used so that students can share their own gaming items. These could be a console, game, Amiibos, or a gaming tip or glitch that they have found. This class will not have a component where students play video games during class. **I ask that students do not bring games that are rated as Mature. Because this class is for students 8-12, I want to respect that some students in this class may not be allowed to play games that rated as Mature or higher. I will allow students to talk about or show the cover of any game that is rated Teen or below.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Westminster College
Hi! My name is Lauren, but my students call me "Best Teach". I graduated from Westminster College in 2004 with a degree in Elementary Education. After graduating, I earned my Pennsylvania English as a Second Language Program Specialist K-12 certification. I moved to Shenandoah, Virginia to teach English as a Second Language in 2006. I taught over 40 students (K-12) at 4 different schools. In 2007, I moved to the traditional first grade classroom.
Since then, I have taught in many different capacities. I have taught baby sign language to parents, online for two years as an English as a Second Language teacher, and as a homeschool tutor. My most valuable teaching experience has come as a homeschool mom. I have been teaching my neurodivergent 15 year old son and neurotypical 12 year old daughter since the day they were born.
I bring a variety of classes to Outschool, because I like to pull from all of my interests and talents.
