Class Experience

I love gaming and I'm sure you do too! Now it is time to learn to cook some of foods that you might have only seen on the screen in the Zelda games. We are going to take your cooking skills from "no" to "WOAH!"

This class is geared toward tweens and teens that have never cooked in the kitchen before. The recipes were chosen from the "Unofficial Zelda Cookbook". Each recipe references a food that is used, seen, or created in one of the games from the Zelda franchise. It is my hope that this class will be way for students that LOVE video games to step out of their comfort zone and to try something new. While I do not expect the students to come with much knowledge in the kitchen, I am expecting that a parent or guardian will help them to find necessary materials and ingredients prior to class.

Each week, I will send a list of ingredients and materials needed via the classroom page. Please review these lists and be sure to get any materials or ingredients that you do not already have on hand. On the day of class, please help the student to have all of their materials out on the counter or table so that they can easily find what they need. You do not need to cut or wash anything for your student. We will do that in our class.

Day 1 - Monster Rice Balls from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Day 2 - Energizing Glazed Meat from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Day 3 - Glazed Mushrooms from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Due to the nature of this class, some recipes may take longer than others.
Learning Goals
Students will become comfortable in the kitchen.

Hi! My name is Lauren, but my students call me "Best Teach". I graduated from Westminster College in 2004 with a degree in Elementary Education. After graduating, I earned my Pennsylvania English as a Second Language Program Specialist K-12 certification. I moved to Shenandoah, Virginia to teach English as a Second Language in 2006. I taught over 40 students (K-12) at 4 different schools. In 2007, I moved to the traditional first grade classroom.

Since then, I have taught in many different capacities. I have taught baby sign language to parents, online for two years as an English as a Second Language teacher, and as a homeschool tutor. My most valuable teaching experience has come as a homeschool mom. I have been teaching my neurodivergent 15 year old son and neurotypical 12 year old daughter since the day they were born.

I bring a variety of classes to Outschool, because I like to pull from all of my interests and talents.
