What's included
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Each week students will review the posted material, answer comprehension questions and complete a continent-related Minecraft build to be assigned each week. Students will share a screen shot of their Minecraft build in the classroom. This homework will require time for reviewing the videos, reading posted content, completing the comprehension questions and completing the build. Depending on your child's reading level and time spent to complete the questions and the Minecraft build, homework can take anywhere from 1-2 hours to complete. But, Minecraft-ing is the fun part and it won't seem like homework! (Shhh ... it might even be fun!)Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 5
***THERE ARE NO LIVE MEETINGS FOR THIS CLASS.*** In this 7 week flexible class, students will learn about each of the 7 continents and use Minecraft to extend their learning by "craft"-ing the continents! Students will learn different facts about each continent to find out what makes each large body of land so special and unique. This class will be a mix of reviewing pre-recorded videos from Miss Lisa, reading information from related websites, watching related video links, answering comprehension questions and completing a Minecraft-build related to the continent that they are learning about. At the end of each week, students can submit a screenshot or short video of their Minecraft build to share with the other students. Students can describe and explain their build to the other students in the class. Posting and commenting on fellow students Minecraft builds in the classroom is great way to connect with other students in the class, too! Each week, you (the student) will review the posted material in the classroom. Posted material includes prerecorded videos from Miss Lisa, video and website links, games, etc. Content will be posted Monday through Friday at 9am EST. Weekly, you will download a worksheet to complete, answering comprehension questions about what you have learned about the continent of the week. We are starting with the LARGEST continent: Asia! You will also be given an assignment in the form of a geography-related Minecraft build to extend what you have learned. The possibilities are endless! Will you build a map of the continent? Will you build a famous landmark? Maybe you could build an entire city! It's up to you! This weekly Minecraft challenge will be different each week and the assignment will be related to the continent of the week. You will go "in game" in Minecraft to create something you have learned about the continent of the week. (Miss Lisa will *NOT* be providing a server to build on, rather students can use their own devices to create a continent-related build in their own Minecraft worlds). To complete the assignment, you will then submit and share screenshots of your weekly Minecraft-builds in the Outschool classroom for student and teacher discussion (https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/screenshotting-guide). If you prefer, you can also share short video tours of your Minecraft builds. Miss Lisa will also provide images of different Minecraft builds as inspiration for the weekly build assignments. Miss Lisa is also available should any questions arise. Week #1: Asia Week #2: Africa Week #3: North America Week #4: South America Week #5: Antarctica Week #6: Europe Week #7: Australia/Oceania This FLEX course will be highly interactive as students will post their answers to the comprehension questions, post screenshots/videos of the weekly Minecraft build challenges and discuss how they constructed their build. Weekly, a new Minecraft challenge will be posted to the classroom for students to submit images/videos of their Minecraft builds. Students can also discuss their Minecraft builds, sharing and commenting on each others' builds and the resources used to complete their build. What will be your inspiration for our first Minecraft build? What kind of resources will you use? What biome will you build in?
