Learners will solve multi-step word problems in a quest to be named the next Master Mathlete. The game will include six categories: basic operations (misc.), fractions, decimals, percentages, basic algebra, and geometry.

Class Experience
In this 1-time, 1-hour "game show style" lesson, learners will solve "real-world" word problems in six categories (basic operations (misc.), fractions, decimals, percentages, basic algebra, and geometry) in the quest to be named the next Master Mathlete. Before beginning the game show, there will be a mini lesson on using the "CUBES" strategy to identify the question being asked and the information needed to solve word problems. Students will be able to use problem-solving thought processes to solve multi-step word problems. Students will be able to read and determine which mathematical process to use in solving a multi-step problem.
Paper and pencil to solve problems
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
