30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
US Grade 2 - 5
Would you be able to locate the state of Nebraska on a map of the United States? In this one-time 30-minute class students will test their knowledge of the 50 states and their location on a map while using strategic skills to stay atop of the leader board. Students will answer multiple choice questions on their own at their own pace. Each student will get exposure to the questions multiple times to ensure mastery and will be able to see the correct answer when the question has been answered incorrectly. They will earn in-game cash by answering questions correctly and can reinvest their money by purchasing upgrades & powerups. No downloads needed. Students will enter the game by a code given to them in the class. On the day of the live class students will test what they have learned by participating in a fun, interactive timed game with other students in the classroom. Instructions will be given for the Game along with the code to sign into the game. Students should be comfortable with having 2 tabs open – One for the zoom meeting and one for the game or they may prefer to play the game on a second device (iphone or ipad). Since the students may be unfamiliar with the game and the logistics of how to play, we will play two games with each game lasting 10 minutes. At the end of the game the student will be able to see how many questions they answered correctly and incorrectly. Through game play students will test their knowledge of the US States and their location on a map, interact with other students, and strategically plan to stay on top of the leader board. Class Agenda: *Instructions for Game Play *Game 1 (10 minutes) *Game 2 (10 minutes)

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
West Virginia Teaching Certificate
Hi Everyone. Welcome to Outschool. My name is Karen and I’m excited to be able to bring my love of teaching online.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Fairmont State University in West Virginia. For 10 years I educated students in Family and Consumer Sciences. I love teaching FACS courses because they help students to develop the essential life skills and knowledge to lead their best lives. It also offers students education to career pathways in:
Education and Training
Human Services
Interior design
Foods and Nutrition
Child and Family Development
In addition to Family and Consumer Science I am certified to teach Safety and Drivers Education, PreK – 5th grade and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). A love of mine is traveling, but not just traveling, having lived in 10 different states, I have immersed myself into the culture of the areas and discovered how each state has a uniqueness all their own. I hope to also share my passion for travel and what makes each state one of a kind.
My teaching style is what I call “structured fun”. When teaching my students about how to educate Preschool children we discuss about how they learn through play. I don’t believe that should just apply to Pre-Schoolers. My classes include a lot of interaction through discussions, games, projects, and fun quizzes.
Hope to see you in my class ready to learn, interact, and have fun!
