Class Experience

Grab some snacks, grab a drink, and let's play some games. Whether you need a break from homework or you're just looking for something fun to do from home, here's your chance to do it with new friends from around the world.

To begin our friendly and stress-free class, we will begin by chatting, getting to know one another, or just catching up from the week. Next, we will begin games such as [Scattergories/Taboo/Jeopardy] and more. During the classes, students are always welcome to suggest new games that can be added for a future class. Some games may be repeated but with new categories each time. Regardless of any games played, students are sure to have fun and laugh a lot.

In addition to having a great time, students will continue learning encouragement of others, empathy, self-confidence.

All games and conversations in this class will remain respectful toward one another at all times.

Note: Please let me know if the student needs any help with reading or writing in this class. I am always very happy to help!

Beginning games that are subject to change include:

Week One- 11/1
Scattergories
A fun and creative thinking game where the student score points by uniquely naming objects within a set of categories, given an initial letter, within a time limit.
Ex. Letter A
Boy's name- Adam
Fruit- Apple
An item from the kitchen- Ajax soap

Week two: 11/8
Taboo
Guess the word on the card without using the word itself or five additional words listed on the card.
Ex. The word is grilled cheese
Words that cannot be used- grilled, bread, cheese, etc.

Week three: 11/15
Jeopardy
Students are presented with general knowledge clues in the form of answers and must phrase their responses in the form of questions.
Ex. He was the first president of the United States.
Who is George Washington?
Many questions will also be more teen-related and not so much academic-related.

Week Four: 11/22
Win, Lose, or Draw/Pictionary
A fun game where one student draws a picture, while the others try to guess the drawing. Categories will be given first.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Science from Methodist College of Nursing
Welcome! My name is Maggie Carnegie. I'm
I live in Illinois and have one 20-year-old daughter. I have a bachelor's degree in Nursing and Health Sciences from Methodist College of Nursing. Over the past several years, I have developed a passion for more life-based learning as I homeschooled/unschooled my daughter from 6th grade to 12th grade. For three years, I also very much enjoyed teaching ESL to children overseas. I have found much joy in teaching English using a more play-based approach.

My classes will be engaging, inclusive, and allow every student to feel confident and important in their learning experience.

I offer a variety of classes as I enjoy finding new ways to be creative and continuing to expand on more subjects of interest. I love teaching and making learning meaningful and engaging for every student. I have experience working with a wide range of students in terms of ages.

I am excited to see your child in my classroom and get to know them better.

I hope our time together will spark their creativity and confidence.
