Galaxy Inspired Crafts (FLEX)
Class experience
Students will learn how to make their own galaxy jar, galaxy soap, galaxy bouncy ball, and galaxy slime by following step-by-step instructions as I model how to create each of these crafts. Prior to creating the craft for the week, l will share photos and information about galaxies. Students will be encouraged to do some of their own research on galaxies as well, and share their research on our classroom page. I have previously created these galaxy crafts with children I have tutored and babysat-- they really enjoyed making them!
List of materials to have / to be purchased (by craft): 1. Galaxy Jar: -16 oz. Mason Jar -Fine Silver Glitter -Bright Purple, Pink, Blue Tempera OR Acrylic paint (at least 2 colors are needed) -1 to 2 bags of Cotton Balls -A cup w/ the same amount of water that will fit in the jar 2. Galaxy Soap: -1.5 pounds melt and pour clear glycerin soap -1/2 teaspoon jojoba oil -10-15 drops of 2-3 of the following essential oils: ylang ylang, chamomile, rosemary, peppermint, eucalyptus -Soap colorant: pink, purple, blue -Turquoise and/or silver biodegradable cosmetic glitter -Rectangular soap mold -Rubbing alcohol -3 microwave safe measuring cups OR medium sized bowls -spoons for mixing and measuring 3. Galaxy Bouncy Ball: -1/2 Cup of Warm Water -1 TBSP of Borax -1 to 2 TBSP of Elmer’s Clear Glitter Glue 4. Galaxy Slime: -Purple, blue, and pink food coloring -Fine Purple glitter -Elmer’s clear glue -Sta-flo liquid laundry starch -3 bowls (for each color of galaxy slime) -Add to each bowl: -1/2 cup glue -1/2 cup water -1/2 cup laundry starch -purple glitter -food coloring -fork to stir with
