In this four week camp we'll have lots of fun while exploring scenes of of friendships between girls, and making new friends with our fellow readers! Each day we will warm up with theater games, then dive into reading a scene of dialogue between girls- to learn more about different types of relationships- from sisters, to friends, to kindred spirits. We'll try out different techniques like changing inflections and delivery, and explore how differences in our voices and teamwork can enliven a performance of the text. We will use scenes drawn from the following sources for discussion/critical purposes only: Week 1: Little Women Week 2: Anne of Green Gables Week 3: Baby-Sitters Club Week 4: Choose a Small Scene- Mix and Match -Acting experience is not necessary. Just a willingness to jump in and give any character a try. -Prior knowledge of the books is not necessary. We'll see if we, as a group, know anything about the characters and story before we dive into a scene, then we'll see what what we discover within the scene that tells us more about the characters. -No memorization is required. We'll be reading through each scene, taking turns as different characters, and revisiting scenes to see how our portrayals change once we know more about the characters in them. -While the characters in the scenes for this class identify as female, all kids are welcome to join us and lend their voice to the characters we are exploring.

Teacher expertise and credentials
NOTE: as of Fall 2022 I am returning full time to my in-person teaching, I am happy to book out a section for anyone who would like to give it a try, however the class must meet the learner minimum to proceed. Drop me a line to inquire about any class that has you interested. Much thanks and happy learning!
Hello! My name is Miss Abby and I love to engage students through hands-on activities, and active participation in learning together. I have worked as an Early Childhood Educator since 2007, teaching children ages 3-7. I like to use stories as a jumping off point to connect with more academic concepts. By bridging story themes, songs, movement, and activities to learning- I find my preschool students' engagement with the concepts soars, and makes learning synonymous with having fun.
My personal hobby for baking led me to begin teaching those skills in-person with young bakers in 2017. I since have paired baking with my love of books- to bring novels to life by baking up the foods we encounter in them. Experiencing the foods of other eras, places, and characters can spark fresh perspective on the stories we read. Thus was born the Baking Book Club series I teach on Outschool.
