Class Experience

In this hands-on course, students will learn how to manage and create using Google apps. I use exploration, collaboration, and competition to engage the students and encourage them to dig deep and learn more about each tool.

Students will discover the various ways to include text, insert pictures, edit text/images, link to other documents or websites, and so much more! In each Google app, we will learn its main purpose and brainstorm ways we can see ourselves using it in our own lives. We will focus on Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings.

Day 1- Google Docs
Day 2- Google Sheets
Day 3- Google Slides
Day 4- Google Drawings

Each day will also include the following:
-Exploring Google Drive and learning to manage, organize, and navigate Google apps
-Learning new keyboard shortcuts
-Discussing and collaborating ideas
-Spending time creating our own product in the app we learned that day

Students will already need to have a Google account. They may use their school Gmail if they have one. However, if they do not already have a Gmail, you can quickly create a Google account for them. If you happen to have a Google account yourself, it is possible to create a Google account for them under your name and manage it through the Family Link.

If your child uses Google tools in their school or they simply like to create and share using technology, then this is the course for them!

Learning Goals

Students will be able to fluently use Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Students will learn and practice inserting pictures from a Google search. While I will be prompting age-appropriate searches, we cannot always control what pops up on a search. However, it will be very unlikely that they will see anything unsuitable. If you feel the need, you can turn on SafeSearch in your Google search settings.
Supply List
No supplies are needed, other than a Google account. Students will already need to have a Google account. They may use their school Gmail if they have one. However, if they do not already have a Gmail, you can quickly create a Google account for them. If you happen to have a Google account yourself, it is possible to create a Google account for them under your name and manage it through the Family Link.

Students have been using technology and Google apps in my classroom for over five years. I personally use each of these Google apps daily to create and share products. Not only have I been able to successfully teach technology skills to students, but I have been able to collaborate and learn many skills with the students, which I believe, provides a richer understanding for all.
