Future Technology: 3D-Printing, Robotics, Genetics, Space Travel, AI, and More
What's included
1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this class, we will learn about what life may look like in the near and distant future. We will consider and discuss how the future will be affected by factors such as artificial intelligence, self-driving vehicles, 3D-printing, nanobots, virtual reality, space travel, and more. Students will discuss the likeliness, ethics, benefits, and potential negative effects of future technologies and scenarios. They will have a chance to make predictions of their own, discuss futuristic books & movies, and make reasoned arguments as to why they believe certain things may come to be (or not). We will discuss: 1) Our technological history & past predictions 2) Modern technological trends 3) Life in 2030, 2050, and 2100 4) The future in books and movies. While the future is impossible to predict, we will make educated guesses and reference insights from popular, science-based sources and books such as Life 3.0, The Future of Humanity, Futurism.com, and more (it is not necessary at all for students to have or to have read these). I am very optimistic about the future and aim to keep the class positive, educational, interesting, and fun. We will use an image-heavy slideshow of emerging and potential future technologies.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about upcoming technologies and will consider how society and daily life may change as they enter the market.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Ever since I was a kid, I've been drawn to everything futuristic from toys, to books, to movies. For better or worse, not much has changed, and I often find myself checking websites such as Futurism.com and The Medical Futurist for updates and information.
I do my best to stay up-to-date and have (and continue to) read many popular, science-based futurism sources and books such as Life 3.0, Super Intelligence, The Second Machine Age, and more.
